Course Description

The opportunities for students, in this first course, for all majors are to learn personal and professional leadership styles and drivers by providing an overview of leadership basics. Leadership skills are utilized across fields of study. Regardless of the roles individuals assume in an organization, they will need to communicate effectively, influence others, and understand the way they respond to others and why. The course engages students in discussion, exploration, and application of leadership skills, principles, and practices. Students will learn about the relationships and connections leaders have with individuals and organizations. Topics include leadership communication, motivation, style, and characteristics.聽

MGT350 - Business Policy and Strategy

Course Description

This course includes the process of formulating, implementing, and evaluating business strategies. Policy creation designed to support implementation of the strategic plan is addressed. Students gain knowledge of how business strategies establish and influence the company鈥檚 position within an industry to gain a competitive position.聽

Course Description

Throughout HRM300, students will explore the history, present status, and predictions of HRM practices. They will learn about HRM theories and how to apply them in a real-world environment. Details regarding HR functions such as recruitment, selection, onboarding, training and development, performance management, compensation and benefits, and the legal aspects of employee and labor relations will be addressed throughout this course.

Course Description

Students will learn how to effectively create and implement unique organization-specific total reward offerings (i.e., compensation and benefits) that aid in recruiting and retaining the workforce of today and the future. Various topics will be explored in HRM350, which includes compensation and benefits, work-life balance/wellness, performance and service recognition, additional perks, and reward structures, as well as career development opportunities. HRM435 - Creating a Diverse and Ethical Workforce

Course Description

Students will learn how to effectively, efficiently, ethically, and legally create a workplace that is diverse, inclusive, values belonging, and demonstrates equity. As the modern-day workplace changes, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) are critical aspects of understanding. Thus, students will recognize how creating DEIB strategies can aid in recruitment and retention and, too, can contribute to an organization鈥檚 short- and long-term success.

HRM445 - Labor Relations and Employment Law

Course Description

The purpose of this course is to explore the interrelationship that exists among HR functions, employment regulations, and legal advancements. HR professionals must understand how the law impacts the employee life cycle and everyday workplace practices/ behaviors. Throughout this course, students will encounter various ethical, legal, and moral scenarios and will make suggestions that can enhance the organization鈥檚 reputation.

HRM440 - Recruitment, Selection and Employee Development

Course Description

In HRM440, students will gain an understanding of the critical steps, processes, and technological platforms involved in attracting quality candidates, selecting the best applicants for hire, and retaining productive and motivated employees. Specifically, students will identify how to assess a candidate鈥檚 competencies, qualifications, and organizational and job fit. Additionally, information about employee orientation, onboarding, and socialization will be addressed. Finally, the steps associated with creating meaningful employee training and development programs will be explored.

Course Description

In HRM460, students will explore the interconnections between human resources and organizational development. As the role of human resources continues to evolve and intensify, professionals need to recognize how organizational development practices can improve strategic human resource functions and can enhance organizational advancement. Students will explore how factors internal and external to an organization can influence individual, team, and group-level decisions. Using scenarios, students will utilize HR and OD theories and examine metrics to make strategic decisions.

HRM481 - Capstone: Managing and Leading Human Capital

Course Description

Throughout HRM481 students will utilize the knowledge acquired throughout their HRM education when exploring scenarios/situations related to strategic planning, workforce planning, employee and labor relations, total rewards, training and development, and legal and ethical aspects. Students will be required to draw upon theories, research popular and industry-specific practices, and more when making decisions to aid in the advancement of organizations.
