Course Description
In this course students will investigate the history of long term care (LTC) and the current need for these organizations. They will analyze the various types of facilities, levels of care and facility management processes.

LTC320 - Organization and Management of Long Term Care Facilities
Course Description
Students will gain an overview of the organizational structures common to long term care facilities. Students will examine the differences and similarities between nursing homes, assisted living, residential care, retirement homes and hospice care. The role of operations and daily management will be emphasized through course outcomes and activities. The student will also examine the theory and practice of service delivery within the healthcare organization.

LTC340 - Law, Regulation and Ethics in Long Term Care
Course Description
Students will identify state and local regulations affecting the long-term care industry. Compliance with health and safety laws and regulations will be reviewed. Students will investigate employment regulations and mandatory reporting. Regulations for security, use, and transmission of protected health information are discussed. Finally the importance of the survey process is examined.

LTC360 - Financial Management and Reimbursement in Long Term Care
Course Description
Students will discover the processes utilized in the financial management of a LTC facility. Special accounting requirements of Medicare, Medicaid and third-party payor sources will be examined. The processes of financial eligibility and reimbursement will be described, as well as the importance of accurate coding, billing, and communication.

LTC380 - Quality, Safety & Risk Management in Long Term Care
Course Description
Students will gain additional knowledge into the delivery of Long Term Care services. Quality of life and quality care practices will be introduced, as well as safety standards for LTC facilities set forth by regulatory agencies. Risk management processes and procedures are identified, and quality improvement functions will be compared.

HCM450 - Healthcare Information Systems
Course Description
In this course students will examine concepts of knowledge creation, data management and stewardship, use of metrics, and clinical and administrative applications in the provision of health care. The critical nature of aligning health information systems (HIS) with strategy is explored. Methods and processes related to selection and application in use of technology needed to make informed business decisions are discussed as are HIS governance, regulatory compliance, and risk management. Students will gain understanding of the opportunities and challenges of implementing robust and effective information management systems in a healthcare setting. Recommended Prior Course: HCM310
